HP Technology for Teaching Grant Awarded to Moravian College Biochemists

A two-year grant ($68,000) starting in May 2007 was awarded for the project entitled "Enhancing the teaching of biochemistry through macromolecular visualization using a mobile computing environmente" Profs. Shari and Stephen Dunham will be using the HP tablet PC computers and accessories in BIOL/CHEM 327 and CHEM 108 for classroom activities and laboratories. Prof. Dan Libby in the Department of Chemistry will be using software supplied by the grant to transform his learning activities in the Organic Chemistry classroom to a "paperless" medium. Expect to see more PC tablet use in your classes starting in the fall of 2007!

MALDI-TOF Mass Spectrometry now at Moravian College

Moravian College has recently purchased and installed a Bruker Autoflex I MALDI-TOF Mass Spectrometer for research and curricular use. This high-resolution, research-quality instrument can determine the mass and composition of high molecular-weight, non-volatile samples, particularly biological polymers such as nucleic acids and proteins. Look for it in your science laboratory courses starting in the fall of 2008!
